James McNeill Whistler

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white sketch of man sitting on bench. Man wearing hat, jacket, shirt, pants and shoes. His right arm is behind his back and left arm extended outward. He appears startled or alarmed with mouth open. He sits on a bench with his right leg crossed over his left. The sketch is on paper with rough edges. There are two smaller sketches on the same paper. One appears to be a man in a hat holding a stick. The larger sketch on top depicts people in a courtyard.
