Portrait of a Lady

John Carlin

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Oval-shaped black and white portrait of a woman. The woman has curly hair parted in the middle and pulled behind her ears. She wears a dark jacket and a light-colored scarf or shawl wrapped around her neck. The portrait is set in a metal frame with a rope-like pattern around the edge. Two small metal pieces protrude from either side, possibly for pinning. The background of the portrait is dark on the left and lighter on the right.
