Prescribed by the New York City to the Mexican Volunteers

Charles Cushing Wright

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Oval-shaped medal with a darkened, aged appearance. A woman stands prominently in the center, her right arm raised, holding a bundle of spears or arrows, while her left arm is extended to the side. She wears a short, draped garment, with her hair tied back. On her right side, a ship is visible on the water; on her left, a coastal town with buildings and a wall. The edge of the medal features raised text: "CORDOBA" on the left, "VERA CRUZ" at the bottom, and "TABASCO" and "CHAPULTEPEC" on the right, with an illegible word at the top. A loop at the top attaches the medal to a small metal piece.
