Two Studies of a Dog: Three Quarter Rear View Standing; Lying Down (from Sketchbook)

Francis William Edmonds

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image shows a pencil sketch of two dogs on a piece of paper. The paper is rectangular and slightly off-white. The dog on the left side of the paper is standing and viewed from the rear at a three-quarter angle. The dog faces right; its head is drawn with minimal detail. The dog on the right side of the paper is lying down and viewed from the side. The dog's body and head are drawn with minimal detail; its front legs are stretched out in front of it, and its back legs are bent underneath its body. The background of the paper is mostly blank, with some smudges and marks from the pencil. The paper appears to be bound on the left side. The background behind the paper is plain white.
