Portrait of a Gentleman

John Carlin

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white image of a man in a framed oval portrait. The man has fair skin, light-colored hair that is parted on the side, and recedes from the forehead. He wears a dark-colored jacket and a bow tie with a white shirt. The frame is square with an oval cutout in the center. The frame has a beaded border around the oval and a rope-like design around the outer edge. The frame appears to be made of metal, possibly silver or another dark-colored metal. A small hook is attached to the left side.
