Breech Loading Falconet (from Sketchbook)

Albert Bierstadt

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white pencil sketch of a breech-loading gun on a piece of paper with rounded corners and a black border. The gun faces left. The breech-loading mechanism is on the right side. The gun has a short barrel and a curved handle on top. The handle extends backwards and to the left. There are two protrusions on the bottom, near the breech. The breech is on the right and has a near vertical line down its center. There are notes written to the right and above the gun. The visible words say, "Breech loading falconet," and some other illegible words. The background is white. The paper is slightly off-center. There are 7 evenly spaced black dots along the left edge. The edge of the paper has black smudges on it. The smudges are thicker on the right and bottom.
