Sally Ann Furnace

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Stove Plate by Sally Ann Furnace shows a rectangular, dark gray or black cast iron plate with a raised rectangular section in the center that has a hinged latch on the left side. The plate has a raised border around the edges with decorative scrollwork on the top and bottom. The words "SALLY ANN FURNACE" are cast into the metal at the top center in a curved line. The bottom center features a shield with a striped pattern flanked by two flying birds and surrounded by foliage. The words appear on either side of the shield: "PATENTED" on the left and "UNITED" on the right. The background of the image is plain white.
