Breastplate (Plastron)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Breastplate (Plastron) is a dark grey, metallic armor piece. The breastplate is shaped like a shield with a curved top and a flat bottom. It is composed of five horizontal plates riveted together. There are two small metal loops on either side of the top edge. The background is a plain light grey color. The breastplate appears to be made of metal, possibly steel or iron, with a weathered appearance. It has rivets along the edges of the plates. The overall shape is symmetrical.
