From left to right, the stacks are: - A solid gray cylinder - A black cylinder with a thin, etched white vine pattern - A dark gray cylinder with the same etched white vine pattern - A gray cylinder with etched flowers - A stack of thin, corrugated metal sheets - A stack of thin, smooth metal sheets with wavy lines - A gray cylinder with etched abstract plant-like silhouettes - A stack of irregularly shaped, textured gray squares and circles. The box sits on a plain background on top of a small stand with a ruler along the bottom. A small piece of paper with handwritten numbers is taped to the front of the stand. Small labels on the right and left corners of the box read "THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART" and "1923". The image is in black and white. "Lacquer Samples" by unknown artist.
