Breastplate with Taces and Tassets

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The breastplate is made of metal and has a curved, U-shaped top. Two small metal loops are visible on either side at the top. The main body of the breastplate is shaped like a torso, wider at the top than at the bottom. The breastplate features a central ridge running down the middle. Several curved lines extend from the central ridge, resembling folds of fabric. Small rivets secure these lines. A decorative design, possibly floral, is visible on the lower portion. Attached to the left side is a tace, a curved piece of metal. The lower section of the breastplate consists of tassets, which are overlapping plates. These plates cover the hips and upper thighs. They are also made of metal and feature a similar design to the rest of the breastplate. The background of the image is plain and light-colored.
