Cup-Hilted Rapier

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Cup-Hilted Rapier features a long, slender blade. The hilt is made of metal and has a distinctive cup-shaped guard that covers the hand. The guard is semicircular, with a slight lip around the edge. A short, cylindrical grip is wrapped in brown material, possibly leather or wire, and topped with a small, rounded pommel. Two long, thin quillons extend outwards from the guard on either side, each ending in a small knob. The background of the image is a solid gray color.
