Knife with Sheath

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Knife with Sheath by Artist Unknown. The knife has a metal blade with a pointed tip and a straight edge. The blade exhibits significant signs of aging or wear, with visible rust or corrosion and darker spots. The handle is made of a light-colored material, possibly ivory or bone, with a rounded pommel and no distinct guard. A gold-colored metal band encircles the base of the handle where it meets the blade, featuring a decorative scalloped design. To the right of the knife lies the sheath, constructed from brown leather and adorned with gold-colored metal fittings at both ends. The metal components display an aged appearance with intricate designs and visible wear. A dark brown cord or leather thong protrudes from the top of the sheath, secured with a knot. The sheath and knife are set against a plain white background.
