Shield (Dhàl)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Shield (Dhàl) is a long, narrow, shield with a curved top. It features a woven design made from brown material, possibly leather or woven fibers, in a herringbone pattern. Three light-colored wooden or bamboo strips run vertically down the center. A loop of darker material, possibly leather, wraps around the shield in a curved shape, with a small piece of light-colored material attached. The shield has two small protrusions at the top.
