Sword Guard (Tsuba)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black sword guard with rounded corners and slightly curved sides. A large oval-shaped hole is in the center for the blade, accompanied by a smaller oval hole to the left. Five horse figures are attached: one black with yellow and red spots on the lower left, two gold on the bottom and lower right, and two copper-colored on the upper right. The guard has a textured appearance.
