Sword Guard (<i>Tsuba</i>)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image shows a dark brown, circular sword guard with a scalloped edge. The guard has three holes: one long, thin, vertical hole in the middle and two oval-shaped holes on either side. The guard features an engraved design depicting a landscape with a person in a boat on water and buildings on the shore. The engraving is more prominent at the bottom and right side of the guard. Small gold and blue inlays are scattered throughout the design. The background of the image is off-white. The guard is titled "Sword Guard (Tsuba)" and is attributed to an artist.
