Tortures of the Damned

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image shows a page from an illustrated manuscript titled "Tortures of the Damned" by an unknown artist. The page is yellowed with age and has a red border around the edges. There are several lines of black text written in a non-Latin script at the top of the page. Below the text, there are four illustrations. The first illustration on the left shows a circular image with several nude human-like figures piled on top of each other. A blue-skinned figure with yellow hair and red shorts holds the pile from the left. To the right of the circular image, there is a tree with green leaves and a yellow lightning bolt-like object. Next to the tree are two blue-skinned figures with yellow head coverings. The figure on the left wears yellow shorts and holds a stick with a monkey-like creature on it. The figure on the right wears a yellow and black checkered cloth around their waist and holds a bow and arrow. On the far right, there is another illustration of a figure with a long neck and a child on their back, holding a bow and arrow. The background of the page is a light brown color with darker brown spots and tears.
