Seated Tara

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The statue depicts Seated Tara, a female figure crafted by an unknown artist. The figurine is made of dark gray metal. Seated Tara sits cross-legged on a base with her right leg resting on top of her left. She sits on a tiered rectangular seat. Her right arm is bent at the elbow, holding a sword. Her left arm is bent and holds what appears to be a stalk with a blossom on the end. She wears a necklace and a beaded waistband. A large oval frame with a scalloped edge surrounds her. The frame is adorned with a decorative design and a small figure at the top. The background of the image is light grey.
