Greenstone pendant

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Greenstone pendant, made by an unknown artist, features a dark green stone carved into a humanoid figure. The figure has bulging circular eyes with gold-colored metal inlays, a wide nose, and a partially open mouth. A thin line extends from the mouth down the chest. The figure has no arms. The body curves out to the sides then loops back in to form a point at the bottom, creating a hole. The background gradient transitions from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom. A subtle shadow is cast to the right.
