Incense burner

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Incense burner by Unknown Artist shows a rounded vessel made from a light-colored jade-like material. The vessel features a rounded base and sides that curve inward to form a wide body, then narrow and curve outward to form a rounded shoulder. A decorative element adorns the bottom of the body. The body and lid are carved with an intricate floral pattern. Two handles are attached to the body on either side. The handles are shaped like curved tubes with a flower and leaf carved on top of each. The lid is rounded and flat on top, with a small knob in the center; it also features the same intricate floral pattern as the body. The background is light-colored and even.
