The painting "Windblown Bamboo" by Xia Chang depicts a vertical landscape on a beige background. A large, gnarled rock formation dominates the lower half of the composition. The rock is rendered in shades of gray and brown. Several bamboo stalks with long, thin leaves emerge from and surround the rock. The bamboo stalks are drawn in black ink. They extend upwards and outwards from the rock, some bending and swaying to the right. The leaves are sparse at the base and become denser towards the top. A few small plants grow at the base of the rock on a small hill. The upper portion of the painting features two columns of Chinese calligraphy in black ink, with some characters highlighted in red. Additional Chinese characters appear on the right side of the painting, and there are a few red seals scattered throughout. The entire composition is framed by a thin beige border on a black background.
