Bell-Shaped Jar

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Bell-Shaped Jar by unknown artist. The jar is made of clay and has a light brown color. It is shaped like a bell, with a narrow top that flares out into a wide body. The jar has a small lip around the top edge. Three raised lines encircle the jar's body. Two of the lines are near the top, and one is near the bottom. The area between the two top lines has a herringbone pattern. The area between the bottom line and the middle line has a fringe-like pattern. The background is a plain gray surface. A shadow is cast to the left and right of the jar. The wall behind the jar is light purple.
