Tripod cauldron (ding)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Tripod cauldron (ding) by artist is a bronze vessel with a wide, rounded body that tapers slightly towards the bottom. The body has a dark patina with visible signs of wear and tear, and a decorative band encircles the middle featuring a diamond pattern. Two small, rectangular handles protrude from either side of the rim. The vessel stands on three legs, each featuring ornate, curved designs that resemble a combination of animal and plant motifs. The legs are slender and taper towards the bottom, ending in flat, curved feet. The background of the image is a plain gray color, which helps to highlight the details of the vessel.
