Standing Buddha

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Standing Buddha by an unknown artist depicts a gold statue of Buddha standing on two feet with a wide robe covering both shoulders and most of the body. The right hand is raised with the palm facing outward and the left hand is at the side. The head is topped with a rounded knob-like hairstyle. There are traces of blue on the knob and the robe. The gold paint is chipped off in several places, revealing a dark material underneath. The background transitions from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom.
