Landscape Painting of Figure in Woodland Setting

Unidentified artist

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The painting depicts a landscape with a woodland setting. The scene shows a group of people and a peacock on a path. There are five human figures; one on the left wears a blue shirt and red head covering, and a long black item hangs from their hand. The next three figures are to the right, wearing loincloths; two of them are holding objects. The fifth figure, on the far right, wears a blue head covering and a loincloth. A peacock faces left in the center. The path curves and is surrounded by green foliage and brown ground. The background shows green and brown hills, with some white and gray rocky areas. The sky above is dark and gray. The entire scene is framed by a thin brown line on a beige background.
