The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A woman wearing a kimono with a white base and a red and blue pattern sits on the floor with her right knee bent, holding a rectangular birdcage on a stand with her right hand. The woman's kimono has wide sleeves and a low neckline; she wears her hair up with buns on either side of her head. The birdcage is blue with a red trim and a small black stand. There are Japanese characters written in black ink on the paper. The background of the image fades from beige at the top to gray at the bottom.
