Case (Inrō) with Design of Pottery Plaques

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Case (Inrō) with Design of Pottery Plaques by Kawanabe Kyōsai. The image shows a rectangular, rounded-corner case with a blue and white design. The case is divided into two sections horizontally. The top section features a white background with a repeating pattern of small gray flowers. On top of this background, there is a large blue and white design that resembles a flower or plant with curved lines extending from the center. The bottom section is similar to the top but the design is more symmetrical. The case has a gold-colored border around the edges. There are two blue cords attached to the top of the case, one on each side. The background of the image is brown. The case appears to be made of lacquer or a similar material. The image presents the case from a front view and a slightly different angle.
