Rectangular case with rounded corners and a flat top, made of lacquerware; case is divided into two sections; each section features a scene with two Chinese sages on a verandah; sages are playing musical instruments; one sage on the left side of the case is playing a qin and the other sage on the right side is playing a sheng; background includes trees and a body of water; lacquerware is primarily black with orange, gold, and white highlights; thin black lines etched into the case to form a grid pattern; two thin black handles protruding from the top of the case.
