Fragment of Summer Kosode (Katabira)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Tanaka Kosuke, Fragment of Summer Kosode (Katabira). Vertical rectangular beige textile with a thin pale pink border. The textile features a design with brown leaves and blue and brown flowers on stems. The flowers have four rounded petals and are five-petaled. The stems have small blue and brown flowers and buds. The bottom of the textile has a wavy blue line design resembling water. The background of the textile is beige with some darker beige and brown spots. The overall design is asymmetrical, with elements placed to the left side. The textile appears to be made of a lightweight material, possibly silk or cotton. The colors used are muted, with shades of beige, brown, blue, and pale pink. The design elements are stylized and appear to be inspired by nature.
