Covered vase

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Covered vase by unknown artist shows an intricately carved, clear, glass or crystal vase. The vase has a rounded, narrow top and a wider rounded body. A dragon and a phoenix are carved on either side. A band of carvings near the base includes lotus flowers, waves, and other motifs. The cover features a carved dragon. The vase sits on a dark wooden base carved with more lotus flowers and foliage, with a curved handle on one side. The entire piece appears to be made of smooth, transparent material.
