Lustration of the Infant Jina Mahavira: Folio from a Kalpasutra Manuscript

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image depicts a religious figure with a child on their lap, surrounded by two smaller male figures. The central figure sits on a yellow cloud-like object and wears a crown, earrings, and necklaces. The figure's skin is yellow, and they have black hair. They wear a sleeveless top and a skirt with a floral pattern. The two smaller figures on either side are shirtless and wear patterned cloth wrapped around their waists. Each of the smaller figures holds an object in their hands. The background of the image features a red color with two white animals, possibly bulls or cows, at the top. There are also some black symbols on the left side of the image, which appear to be written in a non-Latin script. The entire image is bordered by a tan-colored area on either side.
