Leaf from a Kalpa Sutra (Jain Book of Rituals)

Bhadrabahu

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A rectangular, aged piece of paper with slightly curved edges and a light-brown color. The paper has darker edges and two red vertical lines running along the left and right sides. There are three red circular marks on the paper: one on the left edge, one in the middle, and one on the right edge. The majority of the paper is filled with black text written in a foreign script, possibly in rows of 3-4 lines. The text is densely packed and appears to be written in a formal or ritualistic style. The overall appearance suggests an ancient or historical document.
