Abaya Cloak

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Abaya Cloak by the artist is a rectangular piece of fabric with a deep red color. The fabric is folded in half vertically down the middle, with the front side facing outwards. There are two long, peach-colored strips running down the center of the fabric, one on either side of the fold, that form a V-shape at the top and have tassels hanging from them. The top and bottom edges of the fabric feature a decorative pattern in a lighter beige color, consisting of geometric shapes resembling triangles and zigzags. On either side of the fabric, there are peach-colored sections with a decorative border featuring triangles and swirling patterns. The background of the image is a solid gray color.
