Sword Guard (Tsuba) with Dragon

Cleveland Museum of Art

The object is a round, dark brown metal guard with a dragon design. The guard has a large oval hole in the center and two smaller oval holes on either side. The dragon is curled around the guard, with its head on the right side and its tail on the left. The dragon has a long body covered in scales, a small horn on its head, and flames coming out of its mouth. The background is black, with a gradient that gets lighter towards the bottom. The guard appears to be made of metal, possibly iron or steel, and has a textured surface. It is likely a sword guard, also known as a tsuba, from Japan.
