Kölner Wappenschild

Cleveland Museum of Art

Woodcut print of St. Jerome by Kölner Wappenschild. The image depicts a man with a halo, wearing a brown monk's robe with a hood and a white cloth around his neck, seated on a stone chair. He holds a quill in his right hand and appears to pierce his chest with a pin or needle in his left hand. A lion sits beside him on the left. The man appears to sit on a base with an ornate border. Behind him to the left is an architectural structure. To the right and behind him is another architectural structure that appears to be a church or cathedral with a dome. In the background are more buildings with steeply pitched roofs and a crucifix. The background includes trees and foliage. The color palette includes shades of brown, beige, green and black. The image has a black border around it and appears to be on a beige background.
