Single Leaf from a "Biblia Pauperum": Christ Crowned with Thorns (recto) Christ Carrying the Cross (verso)
The image shows two scenes from the Bible. The left scene depicts a man in a red robe sitting on a stone bench, with a halo around his head, and four men surrounding him, one of whom is holding a long stick with a thorn-like object on top. The man in red appears to be Christ. The right scene shows the same man in a white robe carrying a large yellow cross. Both scenes have people above the main figures, seemingly emerging from or floating on a long white cloth. The people are wearing robes in various colors including green, blue, white, and red. The background of both scenes is a mottled beige color, with some darker spots and stains. The artwork appears to be hand drawn and colored. The style of drawing and color use suggests the work of Albrecht Dürer.
