Daoist Retreat in Mountain and Stream (Landscape after Ni Zan [1301–1374])
A vertical scroll painting depicts a mountain landscape with a body of water. A large, flat-topped cliff sits on the left side with a body of water in front of it. Several smaller islands with trees are scattered across the water. A mountain range rises in the background behind the cliff and islands. The painting is done in black ink on beige paper. A border of gold-colored patterned paper surrounds the painting on all sides. Several lines of Chinese calligraphy are written in black ink on the top right. Three red stamps are on the bottom right, and one red stamp is on the top right. A small section of gold patterned paper is visible on the left side. The background behind the scroll is white.
