Christ before Pilate: Leaf from a Book of Hours (2 of 6 Excised Leaves)

Henri d'Orquevaulx

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a medieval-style illustration of a scene with several men. The central figure, wearing a long pink robe, stands barefoot in the center of the image. He is surrounded by five other men, some wearing blue, red, and green clothing and head coverings. The men are standing in an arched alcove with a red roof and white walls. The background of the alcove is gold. The scene is framed by a decorative border featuring flowers, leaves, and vines in shades of blue, red, green, and gold. A large decorative letter "D" is at the bottom left, accompanied by several lines of text. The overall design and style suggest a page from an illuminated manuscript.
