

Settee by Thomas Hope. The settee has a high back with a decorative top featuring a central shell motif flanked by scrollwork and floral motifs. Two small pinecone-shaped finials are on top of two short rectangular posts on either side of the back. The frame is made of gold-painted wood with extensive carvings of floral and scrollwork motifs. The settee has two arms with carved decoration and a cylindrical bolster covered in red fabric. The seat and back are upholstered in red fabric with a gold-trimmed rectangular panel on the back and a matching trim along the edges of the seat. The seat has a row of tassels along the front edge. The legs are tapered and have carved motifs. The background is a gradient from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom.
