Spindle-back chair

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Dark brown wooden chair with spindle back. The chair has two vertical side posts on either side of the back, each with a rounded finial at the top. The backrest has two horizontal rails, with four oval-shaped spindles between them. The seat is woven from light brown fibers, possibly wicker or rattan, and is attached to the frame with thin strips of wood. The chair's legs are cylindrical with a slight taper towards the bottom, and are connected by a horizontal stretcher bar. The chair appears to be made of wood and has a simple, classic design. The background is plain white. A title and artist might be; Spindle-back chair.
