Drawing of the Crucifixion

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The drawing depicts the Crucifixion scene. A nude male figure with short hair hangs on a large cross with outstretched arms. His right hip is covered by a cloth. The cross is vertical and has writing on it. Below the cross, a man in 18th-century military attire holds a spear. He wears a hat, a dark jacket with large buttons, white pants and shoes. Several people stand around the cross. Three women are labeled 'MARIA' and 'SALOME'. A man on the right wears a military hat and what appears to be a military-style uniform. Two feather-like plants with thorn-like protrusions flank the scene on either side. Several people are on the left side. The background is white with darker spots. The drawing is framed. The frame appears old and worn. The title of the drawing is "Drawing of the Crucifixion" and the artist is unknown.
