High Chest of Drawers

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The high chest of drawers, made by John Harris, is a tall, two-part wooden piece of furniture. The top section has a decorative crest with a sunburst design in the center, flanked by two circular designs. There are six drawers, each with a semicircular design on the top. The drawers are arranged in two columns of three, with small metal handles. The bottom section has three large drawers with similar semicircular designs on top and metal handles. The legs of the chest are curved and tapered, ending in a rounded foot. The entire piece appears to be made of wood with a medium brown color and a smooth finish. A scalloped design adorns the bottom front edge of the base. The background of the image is gray.
