High chest of drawers

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The high chest of drawers, created by artist John Stuart, features a two-part design with the upper section slightly narrower than the lower one. The piece is made of wood with a medium-dark stain and has a curved top with a decorative crest containing foliage and scrollwork. The crest is flanked by small finials. There are two small drawers at the top, followed by six long drawers with ornate brass pulls. The lower section consists of a base with a carved panel and two drawers, also with brass pulls. The entire piece stands on four curved legs with a scroll design at the top. The edges of both sections have decorative molding, and the background of the image is off-white.
