The oval-shaped black and white portrait of a gentleman, by an unknown artist titled "Portrait of a Gentleman", shows a man with dark hair combed to the side and a beard on the bottom of his face. He has a serious expression, with a straight mouth and slightly furrowed brow. The man wears a dark jacket with a high collar and a patterned cravat tied in a bow. The oval frame is ornate with a twisted loop at the top center. The background behind the man in the portrait transitions from darker on the left to lighter on the right.
