Mathmatical Computaions; Sketch of a Steer; Partial Unidentified Text (from Sketchbook)

James McNeill Whistler

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white sketch on gray paper. A partial sketch of a steer or bull's head and body in the lower left corner and extending to the right. The steer or bull faces left. The head and left horn are drawn in more detail than the rest of the body. The body consists of several short lines. Three lines of cursive handwriting along the top contain mostly illegible text. A column of numbers reads "July 30 16 34" on the left. The numbers "36" appear on the right. The corners of the paper are slightly darker gray.
