Four sketches (from Sketchbook)

James McNeill Whistler

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Four sketches on one sheet, arranged in two columns. Left column: A woman sits on a chair; she wears a dress, and her feet are crossed at the ankles. Underneath is a man crouching; he has on a cap and a long-sleeved top with pants; his left leg is straight and his right leg is bent. On the right is a woman with her back to the viewer; she wears a dress and a head covering; her hands are on her hips. Right column: At the top, a man sits; only his torso and legs are drawn; he wears a long-sleeved shirt with suspenders; his right leg is crossed over his left. At the bottom, a figure rests on their back; their right leg is bent and their left leg straight; they wear pants; to their right is a table with two legs drawn.
