Sketch after David's Napoleon Crossing the Alps; a Recumbent Nude Male; a Standing Female (from Sketchbook)

Thomas Sully

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white sketch on white paper with a black border. The sketch depicts three human figures. One figure in the upper left is lying down on their stomach with their head turned to the right. In the center, one figure appears to be sitting and another appears to be on top of them. The figure on top seems to have their left arm raised. On the right, one figure is standing with their right hand on their chest and left hand on their abdomen. The sketch is made up of simple lines and minimal shading. The figures are not fully detailed. The paper is slightly off-white with darker edges. The black border around the sketch is uneven and thicker at the corners.
