The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Glaive of the Bodyguard of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria, later Emperor Ferdinand II, features a collection of three weapons. The weapon on the left has a dark wooden shaft with a pointed metal head, wrapped with dark fiber near the top; additional fibers are tied below the metal. The central weapon is a long, curved blade with a pointed tip and an engraved monogram; it has a decorative metal tassel at the bottom. The weapon on the right has an ornate blade with a distinctive red tassel; the bottom metal piece resembles an axe head or a hook. The background is a plain wall with a light-colored upper and darker lower section.
