Shaffron (Horse's Head Defense)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Golden-colored horse head defense armor with a weathered appearance. The piece is shaped like a horse's head and neck, covering the front. It has a narrow top, widening at the sides then curving to a point at the bottom. Two short rectangular pieces are on either side, connected by chains. A central ridge runs down the middle, with a raised piece protruding from it. The surface shows signs of aging and wear. Shaffron (Horse's Head Defense), Artist: Unknown.
