The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image depicts a sword guard with a dark brown, rusted metal background. The guard is oval-shaped with three openings: a central, elongated teardrop-shaped cutout and two irregularly shaped openings on either side. Two gibbons are carved on the guard; one is positioned at the top, and the other is at the bottom. The gibbons are black with brown faces and yellow eyes. The top gibbon has its arms outstretched, with one arm reaching down and to the right and the other arm bent at the elbow. The bottom gibbon has its arms outstretched, with one arm reaching up and to the left and the other arm extended to the left. The background of the image is white.
