Sword Pommel (Kashira)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Oval pommel top and cylindrical pommel base, both dark brown with gold inlays. Top pommel has a raised design with gold inlays forming an animal, possibly a horse, on the right side. On the left are gold inlays with a tree-like design with curving branches. The cylindrical pommel base shows more gold inlays on the left, but design is unclear. Both pieces are made of metal, likely bronze.
